Beware the Ides of March

Hi all,

We have been absolutely flat out this month with that crazy doc del thing.

So just a quick update.

Amanda our beloved leader has taken a well deserved break to perform unspeakable acts of decorating to her new house and I am sure that the Murdoch team may be shanghaid for paintbrush duty.

Traci has bravely offered to crack the whip in her absence.

Karen is storming Doc del, I've gone part time, Doris has returned triumphantly for childbirth and Gail, well Gail is doing what gurus do best :)

This is really just a quick note to touch base with all and sundry and we hope to have more to add very soon.

In the words of Tex Perkins:

Surviving the New Semester

Hi all,
at Murdoch we are in the middle of that first week rush!!
Well - we are halfway through the first mad day anyway.
Thought I better try and pop back into the blog.

I will be on leave soon for 4 months - and will let Tracie who's taking over from me know all about the blog.

Merry Christmas From Murdoch

We are a little early for the Christmas thing, however I'm on leave as of tomorrow, leaving Gail, Karen and Amanda to battle on (collective awwwwhhh).

Great link for overseas catalogues

Hi all,
a friend in the UK who has worked in Doc Del for years gave me the following link:

ILLWeb describes themselves as a:
"ILLWeb is a gateway to electronic and print resources pertaining to all aspects of interlibrary loan (ILL), document delivery, and resource sharing. Designed to be comprehensive and international in scope, ILLWeb features links to resources that will help practitioners locate materials for their clientele, manage the ILL process, and keep up with developments in the profession."

More info from their web page:
"Finding aids and verification tools. When you can't find what you're looking for in the usual places, look here. National libraries are great resources for materials published in their respective countries and languages. Search library catalogs and online directories for links to specialized library and archival collections. If you need to verify a problem citation but don't know where to look, check our list of verification tools. Order materials directly from document suppliers or search their catalogs to verify problem citations."

Looking under their Gateways and Union catalogues it looks to have a really comprehensive list of National resources from many countries around the world - so definitely one to remember for those hard to locate international requests.

Get IT! going live!

Hi Everyone,




I'm new to blogging.....



I'm Michelle from UWA Library and I've been working in Doc Del for about 8 years now and I really do enjoy working in this section. I am very excited as on Monday 3rd December, we are rolling out VDX / Get It to our clients. So many people have been invovled with this project and its a huge milestone for all of us, something we can all be proud of.



I really like the idea of this blog. I'm looking forward to sharing and finding new ideas on this space.

Hi I'm Karen. I'm the latest member of the doc del team here at Murdoch after having worked for about 9 months at Curtin. I have been at Murdoch now for 3 weeks and 3 days and learning lots.

What I have found helpful as a new staff member is:
Having had some past experience to help me connect all this new learning too.
Making lots of mistakes on VDX and therefore learning all it's ins and outs.
The helpful attitude of the rest of the staff who are happy to let me make mistakes and then help me to fix them up.
Lucy's supply chart which lists all the processes of supplying documents.
Starting a new job BEFORE the beginning of semester so that I can learn what I am doing before it goes crazy.
working with wonderful people who help ease the anxiety of learning a new job.

I hope this blog page will be helpful to my Doc Del colleagues around the state and beyond? A great thing about working in this area is that we have a legitimate excuse to have contact with other library people.

Murdoch Doc Del Team - Gail

Hi, my name is Gail and I am a resistant blogger. People are still trying to convince me that this is a good thing so if you are of a similar mind please join in to make this less painful for me.

I have been part of the doc del team since March 06 and think that Murdoch is a great place to work. Am very happy that Aaron has joined our team and is willing to lead this project as it is still very new territory for me.

Meeting the other doc del staff at the meeting recently was great so I see this blog as an extension of us all working together. Maybe we should offer a prize to the first non-Murdoch blogger......
